ഉത്തരേന്ത്യയിൽ ക്രൈസ്‌തവനെന്ന്‌ പറയാൻ ധൈര്യമില്ലാതായി’; സംഘപരിവാറിനെതിരെ കത്തോലിക്കാസഭ പ്രസിദ്ധീകരണം

ഏത്‌ വടക്കേ ഇന്ത്യൻ സംസ്ഥാനത്താണ്‌ താൻ ഒരു ക്രൈസ്‌തവനാണെന്ന്‌ ധൈര്യപൂർവം പറയാൻ ഇന്ന്‌ ഒരാൾക്ക്‌ കഴിയുക’യെന്ന്‌ കത്തോലിക്കാസഭയുടെ ഇരിങ്ങാലക്കുട അതിരൂപത മുഖമാസികയായ കേരളസഭ.  ‘കേരളത്തിലെ രാഷ്ട്രീയ നിലപാട്‌ ക്രൈസ്‌തവർ തീരുമാനിക്കും ’ എന്ന തലക്കെട്ടിൽ മെയ്‌  ലക്കത്തിൽ എഴുതിയ  മുഖപ്രസംഗത്തിലാണ്‌ ഉത്തർപ്രദേശ്‌, ഛത്തീസ്‌ഗഢ്‌, ജാർഖണ്ഡ്‌ എന്നിവിടങ്ങളിൽ ക്രൈസ്‌തവർക്കുനേരെ നടക്കുന്ന ആക്രമണങ്ങളെക്കുറിച്ച്‌ ആശങ്ക പങ്കുവച്ചത്‌. 

രണ്ടുവർഷത്തിനിടെ ഇന്ത്യയിൽ അറുന്നൂറിലേറെ  ക്രൈസ്‌തവ വേട്ട നടന്നു. ബിജെപി, സംഘപരിവാർ അംഗങ്ങളാണ്‌ മിക്കയിടത്തും പ്രതികൾ. ഇതേപ്പറ്റി 93 പ്രമുഖ വ്യക്തികൾ ഒപ്പിട്ട കത്ത്‌ പ്രധാനമന്ത്രിക്ക്‌ അയച്ചെങ്കിലും നിശബ്ദതയാണ്‌ നരേന്ദ്രമോദി പാലിക്കുന്നത്‌. അദ്ദേഹമോ, ബിജെപിയുടെ മറ്റ്‌ ഉന്നത നേതാക്കളോ ‘അരുതേ’ എന്നൊരു വാക്കുപറഞ്ഞാൽ ആക്രമണങ്ങൾ നിർത്താനാകും എന്ന കത്തിലെ അഭ്യർഥന വനരോദനമായി. - അരമനകൾ കയറിയിറങ്ങിയാലും പള്ളികളിൽ നേർച്ചയിട്ടാലും മലയാറ്റൂർ മല ചവിട്ടിയാലും വീടുകൾ സന്ദർശിച്ചാലും കത്തോലിക്കാ വിശ്വാസികളുടെ മനസ്സിലെ മുറിവുകൾ അത്രപെട്ടെന്ന്‌ ഉണക്കാൻ ഒരു രാഷ്ട്രീയ പാർടിക്കും കഴിയില്ല. 1998 ൽ അടൽബിഹാരി വാജ്‌പേയിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള എൻഡിഎ സർക്കാർ കേന്ദ്രത്തിൽ അധികാരത്തിലെത്തിയപ്പോൾ കെട്ടഴിച്ചുവിട്ട വിദ്വേഷത്തിന്റെ അശ്വമേധം ഇന്നും ജനാധിപത്യ–- മതനിരപേക്ഷ ഇന്ത്യയുടെ നെഞ്ചിലൂടെയാണ്‌ കുളമ്പടിച്ചു പൊടിയുയർത്തി വിഹരിക്കുന്നത്‌. 2014 ൽ നരേന്ദ്രമോദിയുടെ നേതൃത്വത്തിലുള്ള ബിജെപി സർക്കാർ വന്നപ്പോൾ, ക്രൈസ്‌തവർക്കെതിരായ പീഡനങ്ങൾ ദിനചര്യപോലെ ഏറ്റെടുക്കുകയായിരുന്നു സംഘപരിവാരങ്ങളെന്നും മുഖപ്രസംഗത്തിൽ പറയുന്നു.

മണിപ്പൂരിലെ ലഹള കേരളത്തിനു വലിയൊരു സന്ദേശം നൽകുന്നുണ്ട്. ഈ ലഹള യാദൃശ്ചികമായി സംഭവിച്ചതല്ല, കൃത്യമായ ഒരു പദ്ധതിയുടെ ഭാഗമാണ്. പോൾ ബ്രാസിനെപ്പോലുള്ള പണ്ഡിതർ ഇന്ത്യയിലെ വർഗ്ഗീയ ലഹളകളെക്കുറിച്ചു ചൂണ്ടിക്കാണിച്ചിട്ടുള്ള സവിശേഷത മണിപ്പൂരിനും ബാധമകാണ്. തടയാൻ കഴിയാത്ത പ്രവചനാതീതമായ സ്വാഭാവികമായി നടക്കുന്ന ഒന്നല്ല ഹിന്ദു-മുസ്ലിം കലാപങ്ങൾ. മണിപ്പൂരിലെ സംഭവവികാസങ്ങൾ പോൾ ബ്രാസിന്റെ പാഠപുസ്തകത്തിന്റെ മാതൃകയിൽ കൃത്യമായി സംഘടിപ്പിക്കപ്പെട്ടിട്ടുള്ളതാണെന്ന് ഡൽഹി ഇന്ത്യൻ എക്സ്പ്രസിൽ ഹൈദ്രബാദ് സർവ്വകലാശാലയിലെ ഖാം ഖാൻ എഴുതിയ ലേഖനത്തിൽ വിശദീകരിക്കുന്നുണ്ട്. മണിപ്പൂരിൽ 42 ശതമാനം ഹിന്ദുക്കളാണ്. 41 ശതമാനം ക്രിസ്ത്യാനികളാണ്. 9 ശതമാനം മുസ്ലിംങ്ങളും. ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ മതവിഭാഗം മഹാഭൂരിപക്ഷം വിവിധ ഗോത്രവർഗ്ഗക്കാരാണ്. അവർ മലകളിൽ ഏറ്റവും പിന്നോക്കമായ സാഹചര്യങ്ങളിൽ ജീവിക്കുന്നവരാണ്. ഹിന്ദുക്കളാവട്ടെ മെയ്ത്തി ജാതിയിൽപ്പെട്ടവരാണ്. അവർ താഴ്വരകളിലെ ഫലഭൂയിഷ്ഠമായ മേഖലകളിലും നഗരങ്ങളിലുമായി താമസിക്കുന്നു. താരതമ്യേന സാമ്പത്തികമായി മെച്ചപ്പെട്ടവരാണ് ഇവർ. കഴിഞ്ഞ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ബിജെപി 62 സീറ്റിൽ 32 എണ്ണത്തിൽ വിജയിച്ചു. കോൺഗ്രസിനു വെറും 5 സീറ്റ് മാത്രമാണു ലഭിച്ചത്. ജനതാദൾ(യു) ഉം, നാഷണൽ പീപ്പിൾസ് പാർട്ടിയും (എൻപിപി) 6 സീറ്റുകൾ വീതം വിജയിച്ചു. നാഗാ പീപ്പിൾസ് ഫ്രണ്ടിന് 5 സീറ്റും. ബിജെപിയും എൻപിപിയും നാഗാ ഫ്രണ്ടും ഒരു മുന്നണിയായിട്ടാണ് ഇപ്പോൾ ഭരണം. എങ്കിലും ശ്രദ്ധേയമായ കാര്യം ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങൾക്ക് ഭൂരിപക്ഷമുള്ള സംസ്ഥാനത്ത് ബിജെപി ഒറ്റയ്ക്ക് ഭൂരിപക്ഷം നേടിയെന്നുള്ളതാണ്. എങ്ങനെ ഇതു നേടി? ബിജെപിക്ക് ഇപ്പോഴും ഹിന്ദുസമുദായത്തിൽ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല. ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ന്യൂനപക്ഷത്തെ കൂട്ടുപിടിച്ചാണ് ഭൂരിപക്ഷം നേടിയത്. അതിന് കേരളത്തിലെ ക്രിസംഘികളെപ്പോലെ ഒരു വിഭാഗത്തെ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചെടുത്തു. അതിന് നവമാധ്യമങ്ങളിലൂടെയുള്ള പ്രചാരണത്തെയാണ് കൂടുതൽ ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തിയത്. അതുപോലെ തന്നെ മുസ്ലിം വിരോധവും. മുസ്ലിംങ്ങൾ മ്യാന്മാറിൽ നിന്നുള്ള കുടിയേറ്റക്കാരാണെന്ന പ്രചാരണം ഇത് എളുപ്പമാക്കിത്തീർത്തു. 2017-ലെ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പിൽ ബിജെപിക്ക് 60-ൽ 21 സീറ്റേ ലഭിച്ചുള്ളൂ. മറ്റുള്ള പാർട്ടികളിൽ നിന്നും കാലുമാറ്റിച്ച് ഭൂരിപക്ഷമുണ്ടാക്കി ആദ്യമായി ബിജെപി ഭരണം സ്ഥാപിച്ചു. 28 സീറ്റ് നേടി ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തിൻ്റെ അടുത്ത് എത്തിയ കോൺഗ്രസിന് പ്രതിപക്ഷത്ത് ഇരിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നു. ഭരണം ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തി വളരെ ചിട്ടയായി ഹിന്ദു വർഗ്ഗീയത വളർത്താനുള്ള പരിശ്രമമാണ് പിന്നീടു നടന്നത്. പല ട്രൈബൽ മേഖലകളിലും താമസിച്ചിരുന്നവർ മ്യാന്മാറിൽ നിന്നും കുടിയേറിയവരാണെന്ന വ്യാപകമായ പ്രചാരണം നടന്നു. ചില ഒഴിപ്പിക്കൽ നടപടികളും സർക്കാർ സ്വീകരിച്ചു. മെയ്ത്തി വിഭാഗമാണ് മണിപ്പൂരിന്റെ യഥാർത്ഥ അവകാശികളെന്ന ചിന്താഗതി പിരികയറ്റി. എങ്കിലും ക്രിസ്ത്യൻവിരുദ്ധ ആക്രമണം കെട്ടഴിച്ചു വിട്ടില്ല. ക്രിസംഘികളുടെ സഹായത്തോടെയാണല്ലോ 2022-ലെ മിന്നുന്ന വിജയം ബിജെപി കരസ്ഥമാക്കിയത്. എന്നാൽ തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് വിജയത്തോടെ ബിജെപിയുടെ പ്രഥമലക്ഷ്യം മെയ്ത്തി വിഭാഗത്തിൽപ്പെട്ട ഹിന്ദുക്കളെ മുഴുവൻ തങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം കൊണ്ടുവരികയെന്നതായി. കോടതിയിൽ മെയ്ത്തി വിഭാഗത്തിനു സംവരണം ആവശ്യപ്പെട്ട് കേസ് ഫയൽ ചെയ്തു. അതു പരിശോധിക്കാനുള്ള കോടതിവിധിയെ ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തി മെയ്ത്തിക്കും സംവരണം അനുവദിച്ചു. അതും പോരാഞ്ഞ് അവരെ പട്ടികവർഗ്ഗക്കാരുമായിട്ട് അംഗീകാരം നൽകി. അതോടെ ഗിരിവർഗ്ഗ മേഖലകളിൽ ഭൂമി മെയ്തിക്കാർക്കു വാങ്ങാമെന്നായി. തൊഴിലും ഭൂമിയും നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നമെന്ന ഭീഷണി നേരിട്ടപ്പോൾ ചില പട്ടികവർഗ്ഗ ഗോത്രക്കാർ സമരത്തിനിറങ്ങി. സംഘർഷങ്ങൾ മൂർച്ഛിച്ചു. അതാണ് ഇന്നത്തെ ലഹളയായി മാറിയത്. ഇതാണ് ബിജെപി ആഗ്രഹിച്ചത്. ഇന്ന് മണിപ്പൂര് വർഗ്ഗീയമായി ധ്രുവീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടിരിക്കുന്നു. അല്ലാതെ മറ്റു പോംവഴി ആർക്കുമില്ല. വ്യാപകമായി പള്ളികൾ ആക്രമിക്കപ്പെടുന്നു. പട്ടികവർഗ്ഗ അവകാശം നഷ്ടപ്പെടുന്നതിനെതിരെയുള്ള ചെറുത്തുനിൽപ്പിനെ രണ്ട് വിഭാഗം മതവിശ്വാസികൾ തമ്മിലുള്ള വർഗ്ഗീയ ലഹളയായി വളരെ ആസൂത്രിതമായി മാറ്റിയെടുത്തു. പക്ഷേ, ന്യൂനപക്ഷങ്ങൾ എണ്ണത്തിൽ പ്രബലമാണല്ലോ. അവരുടെ പിന്തുണയില്ലാതെ ബിജെപിക്ക് അടുത്ത തെരഞ്ഞെടുപ്പ് എങ്ങനെ നേടാനാകും? നടക്കുന്നത് വംശീയ ശുദ്ധീകരണമാണ്. നവമാധ്യമങ്ങളിൽ പാലായനം ചെയ്യുന്ന പട്ടികവർഗ്ഗക്കാരുടെ ചിത്രങ്ങൾ കാണാം. അവർ വടക്കു-കിഴക്കൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലേക്ക് അഭിയാർത്ഥികളായി പാലായനം ചെയ്യുകയാണ്. അഭയാർത്ഥികൾക്ക് എവിടെ വോട്ട്? കേരളം മണിപ്പൂർ അല്ല. ഇടതുപക്ഷത്തിനാണ് ഇവിടെ മുൻതൂക്കം. എങ്കിലും നമ്മളെ തകർക്കാൻ ഏതോ ഒരു ഭീകരപദ്ധതി ബിജെപി സ്വരുക്കൂട്ടുന്നതെന്നുവേണം ഊഹിക്കാൻ. വടക്കു-കിഴക്കൻ സംസ്ഥാനങ്ങളിലെ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ഭൂരിപക്ഷം തങ്ങൾക്ക് ഒപ്പമാണെന്നു പറഞ്ഞുകൊണ്ടാണല്ലോ ക്രിസ്ത്യൻ ന്യൂനപക്ഷത്തിൽ ഒരു വിഭാഗത്തെ തങ്ങളോടൊപ്പം കൂട്ടാൻ കേരളത്തിൽ ബിജെപി ശ്രമിച്ചുകൊണ്ടിരിക്കുന്നത്. ഇതിനായി അവർ മുസ്ലിം വിരോധത്തെയാണ് ഉപയോഗപ്പെടുത്തുന്നത്. പക്ഷേ, കേരളത്തിൽ സംസ്ഥാന വ്യാപകമായ ഒരു ലഹള നടത്തുന്നതിനുള്ളശേഷി ബിജെപിക്ക് ഇന്നും ഇല്ല എന്നതാണു സത്യം.

The BJP and its cadres in Kerala are wooing Syrian Christians to the party to get the support of one of the major minority communities. It appears that a few bishops are supportive of the move.

“Are the Christian leaders in Kerala unaware of the agenda of Hindutva ideology?” asked retired archbishop of Guwahati Thomas Menamparampil. He cited the “inimical” attitude to Christians and conversions of what he called RSS frontal organisations such as Janjati Dharm Sanskriti Suraksha Manch (forum for protection of tribal religion and culture).

Archbishop Menamparampil’s opinion finds an echo in the words of former archbishop of Bhopal Leo Cornelio who said that Kerala bishops did not understand the entire context of India. “They are thinking in terms of only one State as if Kerala is India.”

The criticism of the Kerala Church leadership has been aired in interviews of retired archbishops in the Light of Truth, a fortnightly published from the Ernakulam-Angamaly Archdiocese. The archbishops spoke in the wake of Church leaders meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kochi in the last week of April. The meeting bolstered a widespread perception that the BJP was wooing Christians, who were perceivably charmed by the party’s gestures.

Archbishop Cornelio did not take names but said that some bishops had made comments without understanding facts. He referred to the question of the factors in play in the price of rubber. In late March, Joseph Pamplany, Archbishop of Thalassery, stirred up a hornets’ nest when he openly linked Christian support to the BJP to the price of natural rubber.

The Church leadership should limit its intellectual endeavours to educating the people and working for the poor. “When invited by party leaders, they should only send their representatives. They should not go in person. I don’t think shunning them is an option,” said archbishop Cornelio.

Archbishop Menamparampil said “while Modiji visited the Delhi Cathedral, he had not said a single word of sympathy about Father Stan Swamy at any stage.” He also said that it was not for him to suggest the political strategies to be adopted by the Christian community in various parts of the country with varying situations.

In the midst of these developments, the archbishop said: “We must still renew our trust in the balanced and mature element in Hindu society. We should explore ways of entering into dialogue with them at life-related levels where people look to each other for cooperation.”

Anti Conversion Laws Prone To Misuse Against Minorities No Forceful Conversion Laws Prone To Misuse Against Minorities No Forceful Conversions In State For Many Years TN Govt To Supreme Court

Responding to a PIL filed to direct the Law Commission of India to prepare a draft on anti-conversion law, the Tamil Nadu Government has submitted before the Apex Court that Anti-conversion laws are prone to misuse against minorities. The PIL filed by BJP leader Ashwini Upadhyay has also sought for a direction to the government to take steps to control forceful or fraudulent religious conversions, with specific allegations against Missionaries spreading Christianity in the State.

In the affidavit filed before the Supreme Court, the TN government has stated that people have the right to propagate and preach their religious belief to other persons and people also have the choice to change their beliefs, as long as it is without intimidation or deception. 

The TN government calls the PIL ‘politically motivated’, pointing out that it has been filed Advocate Ashwini Upadhyay, who belongs to the ruling party. The petitioner has served as the BJP spokesperson and as a leader of its Delhi unit, the affidavit states. The litigation has been initiated with the intention of furthering the party’s political agenda of fuelling religious intolerance against a particular faith.

“the prayers sought by the Petitioner in the present Writ Petition do not only attack a specific community with intentions to divide the society through hate, fuelling religious intolerance in the country, bringing disharmony in the society. The Writ Petition has been drafted with the sole intention to defame a particular faith by making shocking allegations without providing any supporting data or document”, the affidavit states.

The State Government has submitted before the Supreme Court that there have been no incidents of forceful religious conversion in the past few years and that the allegations made against the Christian community are without any basis. Criticising the “Religiously Motivated Litigation” filed by the petitioner, the affidavit states:

“Article 25 of the Constitution of India guarantees every citizen the right to propagate his religion. Therefore, the acts of missionaries spreading Christianity by itself cannot be seen as something against law. But if their act of spreading their religion is against public order, morality and health and to the other provisions of Part III of the Constitution it has to be viewed seriously. As far as Tamil Nadu is concerned, there has been no incidents of forceful conversion reported in the past many years”

The PIL has also sought for a CBI investigation into the death of 17-year old girl who died by suicide in Thanjavur, Tamil Nadu, calling it a case of forced conversion by the Christian institution where she was studying. However, the TN government has stated that the matter is already under investigation by the CBI and that there is no proof that the suicide of the minor girl was triggered by forced conversion to Christianity. Calling the PIL an attempt to unnecessarily drag a political fight into court, the affidavit states:

“petitioner has made sweeping allegations against the Tamil Nadu Government saying that the Government was determined to remove the conversion angle from the case of Lavanya's suspicious death. The petitioner who belongs to the Bharathiya Janata Party, has attempted to convert the court proceeding into a Political fight by bringing in ideological politics into the matter. All the allegations made against the Government of Tamil Nadu are politically motivated. There are no instances of forceful conversion of religion reported in Tamil Nadu and the State has not done anything in Lavanya's case as alleged by the petitioner.”

The TN Government has also argued that it is the prerogative of the State Legislative Assembly or Parliament to legislate a law on a particular subject and the Constitution does not empower Courts to direct the framing of a law.

The State government has also pointed out that as per the Constitution, all persons are equally entitled to freedom of conscience and the right to freely profess, practice and propagate the religion of their choice, subject to public order, morality, health.

“One of the rights guaranteed by the Indian Constitution is the right to Freedom of Religion. As a secular nation, every citizen of India has the right to freedom of religion i.e. right to follow any religion. As one can find so many religions being practiced in India, the constitution guarantees to every citizen the liberty to follow the religion of their choice”, the affidavit states.

Previously, a bench led by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud had taken exception to certain statements made in the PIL petition against minorities and had asked the petitioner to remove them. The CJI's bench had also pulled up the petitioner for repeatedly filing petitions on the same cause and withdrawing them. The previous bench which heard the PIL had also directed the petitioner to remove "scurrilous statements" made against other religions.
